The history behind the product

TSA regulations a problem for travelers.
If you‘re like most of us, you’ve experienced the post 9/11 headache of traveling through airports and the challenges of carrying your toiletries with you on a trip. You know the drill… if you put your products in a checked bag using the travel kits currently available, you worry the whole way that your products might crack and leak all over your clothing during transit.  If you hand carry it on the plane (and it’s over 3 oz), you worry that your products will be confiscated by airport security. It really is a no-win situation for all of us, but even more-so for female travelers.

Skin care products not travel sized.
The results of a rather unscientific survey revealed that the average female uses between 7-10 products daily during their morning and evening skin care routines. The products used may vary in size and price, but the one thing they all have in common is that none of it comes in a travel size! For female travelers and their skin care habits, there is no organized solution currently on the market that makes it easy for them to take their products with them on a trip. They either leave it all at home, cobble together some solution that does not work or take full sizes in their checked bag and hope that none of it leaks during transit, AND that it doesn’t push them over the 50 pound per bag limit imposed by the airlines. Of course, it goes without saying that if they try to carry it on board, it may be confiscated.

The stories are legion at the coffee klatches and the girlfriend lunches, of what a major irritation this is. One woman interviewed said that when her friend attempted to board a plane with over $200 worth of skin care products in a carry-on bag and was told she would have to throw it all away, her friend stepped out of the airport screening line and called her to come back to the airport to get it.

Not every woman who travels with skin care products has the luxury of calling a friend, so the need is there for a product that makes it easy to carry your regimen with you while being TSA compliant.

The PrettyPALETTE™

The PrettyPALETTE with travel kit on the market.
The PrettyPALETTE was designed to address these issues. It is a product that allows women to travel-size their skin care essentials.  The PrettyPALETTE is compact and lightweight, so that if it were stored in a checked bag, it would make a barely noticeable difference in the weight of the bag. There are three levels of leak resistance designed into the product, so users can be confident that their clothing or other personal effects will be protected from its contents, should leakage occur. Finally, it is flexible enough to be TSA compliant, so there is less chance that a traveler’s products will be confiscated by airport security.

I designed this product after having had my personal care products confiscated twice in two separate trips, while traveling through Denver International Airport. The frustration of having to choose between keeping my expensive skin care products or getting on the plane to go to my final destination was the motivation behind this development. The travel kits that are currently on the market are one-size-fits-all solutions for shampoos and lotions, but don’t effectively address the unique needs of female travelers. In addition, they are very cheaply made and do not adequately protect against leakage.
